Goodbye TPK Classic
Hello TPK, Some of you may have seen I've been working on TPK a lot more lately either porting stuff that I had coded before in the mythical TPK Red edition or working on the server. About that server... If we're gonna keep TPK up for many more years to come I'm going to need to keep the server & code updated. For a bit of context we are on PHP 7.4, released 7 years ago, and our server OS and database are in similar boats. I've been working the last week trying to see how feasible a PHP upgrade is, and at this point I know I can do it. However, TPK Classic has been a issue as that code is over 15 years old now, and considering we have very low activity over there, I've decided to hit the delete button on that version of the game instead of spending considerable effort moving it forward. I talked with a few community members about it and I haven't gotten any pushback on that at all. Not gonna commit to finishing the update by this date, but just to get a date out Classic will shutdown after July 31st! PS: I do have a beta server of the PHP 8.5 upgrade already running at a secret location. If anyone's interested in helping with testing let me know because its going to need a lot of it. ~B0sh |
